Making the transition to home-based, independent practice can seem like climbing a mountain. You anticipate unknown obstacles; but without experienced guides, the journey may be fraught with stress and avoidable mistakes. Home Birth Academy offers everything midwives need to start the climb from hospital to home--not only the "nuts and bolts" of owning your own practice, but how to navigate the emotional, logistical, ethical, and philosophical differences between institutional and community-based practice. HBA’s Come Home to Midwifery program takes place live, in real-time, in the comfort of your home.

Reframing

What paradigm shift is required for the transition from hospital to home practice? How is this informed by your habits, skills, trauma, experience, anxiety, and expectations?

How do you create a practice that honors your work-life balance? What tools will you use to protect yourself against burnout?

How will you organize the clinical aspects of your practice, now that you are in charge? What services will you choose to provide, according to what practice guidelines?

We have a combined 45+ years of experience practicing midwifery and teaching in a variety of settings. Let us guide you in creating your own clinical, ethical and policy decisions.

 What’s Included in

Come Home to Midwifery

  • This is an intensive weekend-long live Zoom meeting to get you off the ground. You will gather the resources you need for your climb to home birth practice, get to know your Guides and fellow Climbers, receive an introduction to the 5 Realms of Study, learn how to use the online platform, have breakouts with other climbers, share your midwifery story, and laugh with people who understand.

  • 4-Day Retreat in a beautiful setting, then Live Zoom classes (including presentations, discussions, small group break out topics, and Q&As)

  • In the final zoom session, each Climber will make a short presentation about their intended practice or what they learned in the course, Certificates of Completion will be awarded, and each Climber will be honored by their fellow Climbers and Guides in a special ceremony that they can invite family and friends to attend, to celebrate their achievement!
